The objective of this observation is to examine layers in a depression. The layers occur on the walls and on buttes in the depression. This scene is in the southern part of the Argyre Basin, which is 1,800 kilometers wide and one of the most impressive impact structures on Mars, excavated in a giant collision about 4 billion years ago.
