Light-Toned Landforms near East Edge of Hesperia Planum

Light-Toned Landforms near the Edge of Hesperia Planum
Also visible in a Context Camera image, this observation can address a decades-old concern as to whether Hesperia Planum is entirely lavas or includes sedimentary rocks in the plains-forming stratigraphic package. The landform is notable for its moderate number of impact craters and abundant wrinkle ridges. The word “Hesperia” is a Greco-Latin poetic term for “lands to the west.”
