Channel Cutting through Lava Flows on Eastern Flank of Olympus Mons

A Channel Cutting through Lava Flows on Olympus Mons
There appears a single deep channel that is cutting through a field of lava flows on the eastern flank of Olympus Mons. Although the elevation of the region is generally decreasing as it goes down the volcano, there is a slight increase in elevation for a short distance. This slight increase could have caused the large channel to be created. As the lava pooled together, there finally was enough to break through the hill in a single location.
