Monitoring Dunes and Transverse Aeolian Ridges in Noachis Terra

Monitoring Dunes and Transverse Aeolian Ridges in Noachis Terra

Quite the Climb in Noachis Terra
Some small dunes in this area are climbing up a larger, dark dune. These dunes are leaving behind smaller features called transverse aeolian ridges (TAR) in their wake. By knowing the rate of migration of the smaller dunes, we can figure the rate of evolution of the TAR pattern. This unique area also shows dune gullies and should be monitored with high priority.
