There is nothing like barchan dunes, especially Martian ones. As sand escapes over the top of the steep side, it forms a trailing wall that is not steep, extending further backward. If there is a substantial change in wind direction, the crescent form can be destroyed. This dune field is located in the 18-kilometer wide Dulovo Crater, is near the Martian dichotomy boundary that separates the ancient terrain of the Southern Hemisphere from the much younger lowlands of the Northern Hemisphere.
