Proposed Landing Site for ExoMars Rover at Hypanis Vallis
This digital terrain model (DTM) covers a portion of an area once proposed as a landing site for the European Space Agency’s ExoMars 2020 Rover near Hypanis Vallis. This cutout shows the DTM placed over a HiRISE image. The landing site for the rover lies to the east of this location. The DTM provides topographic information that would facilitate safe landing and navigation of the terrain by a rover.

In addition to the fan deposits at the outlet of Hypanis Vallis (east of this image), this DTM reveals another such deposit at the terminus of Sabrina Vallis. The deposit covers much of the northern part of the DTM and may have formed into a standing body of water. Layers are visible in the edge of the deposit. The thickness of these layers may be more accurately measured using this DTM.
